Pamco’s story began in 2000 when opening its doors to distribute condoms into non-profit organizations across Canada.  The awareness and importance of condom use took a significant turn with the advent of HIV/Aids in the mid-1980s.  Historically, condoms were simply used to avoid unwanted pregnancies. (Incidentally if you ask some people today they still consider this to be the main reason for condom use). However, a major consideration of condom use today is more about protection from sexually transmitted infections (STIs/STDs).  What most people don’t realize is that STIs continue to grow at pandemic levels.  Against this backdrop we don’t simply sell condoms but instead we engage in continual education and awareness in order to be more transparent about the need to exercise condom use.  Health and education are at the forefront of all that Pamco is involved in.

Over the past 25 years, Pamco has developed many partnerships with over 1000 clients.  Early on we became a resource for many of our non-profit clientele.  For example, in Pamco’s early years condoms with non-Oxynol 9 were the most popular condoms.  It was believed that they offered more protection.  Years later, and for a variety of reasons, these were taken off the market.  As the market needs evolved, so did Pamco.

Pamco grew its portfolio in 2008 when we became the exclusive Canadian distributor for the FC-2 Female Condom (also known as the insertive condom).  The FC-2 is a latex free option that empowers women to take control of their sexual wellness. Use of the FC-2 continues to increase each year.  As well, over the years, both water based and silicone based lubricants have become much more popular.

Twenty years ago, the idea of using a Dam (Oral Barrier) was uncommon.  Today, Dams play a significant role in overall wellness. In fact, up until 2021 Canadians did not have access to a Health Canada approved Dam. In 2021 Pamco met the challenge and became the first regulatory approved manufacturer of a Polyisoprene Dam (Non-Latex) globally.  Since Oral Barriers in Canada are a class III risk device this was quite the accomplishment.  This achievement required Pamco to become an ISO 13485 certified facility. After three years of costly testing and development, with great pride Pamco introduced the Harmony Dams, made in both a latex and a polyisoprene (non-latex) option.

Latex allergies have become more common as exposure increases.  Along with the Latex free Harmony Dams, Pamco is able to offer latex-free sexual wellness kits.  The latex free portfolio will continue to grow as exposure to latex grows, much like operation room gloves are now non-latex.

It is clear that “our health” world has made many advances in the past 25 years.  Pamco’s goal has been to create change and educate our partners accordingly.  Finally, we are now blending Health and Sexual Awareness with Reproductive Health by adding our line of Pamco’s menstrual Cups.  In 2023 Pamco bought the UltuCup brand of menstrual cups which are made in North America.  Pamco specializes in working with Non-Profit organizations to make UltuCup available in communities across North America. These are all part of Pamco’s personal wellness initiatives.  Awareness for a variety of health issues combined with environmentally friendly options is an area we won’t ignore.  We will continue to focus on these in the future.

So….that’s a brief outline of our exciting 25-year success story.  As Pamco continues to transform we can say our journey has never been boring.   Thank you to our partners for coming along on our journey!  We look forward to the next 25 years.
